Amazing location and perfect for our overnight stay. The most fantastic bath in the sea view room we enjoyed immensely. Parking was a bonus in St Ives. Good breakfast and extremely friendly hosts. We plan to return and stay at Painters again. Thankyou ☺️

Tips:

Love St Ives and everything it has to offer. On our trip we managed lunch at Portmeor beach (always excellent). Tea and numerous cocktails at the Rum and Crab shack (great). Tate gallery and all the surrounding shops, harbour and beaches...just so beautiful

So pleased that have parking. It would have helped to have some tips about how to get to you via the one way system as that was a bit stressful. Thanks for the great suggestions about the coastal road we loved it and had a great swim too!

Tips:

Don't bother too much about the main drag of St Ives it isn't very nice but if you can get off the beaten track, it can be quite pleasant. Go off season.

Lovely room (single with corner bath and sea view). Owners very friendly, offered to drive me to start of walk, but the dreaded Covid meant I declined. Will return in Spring, coronavirus permitting.

Tips:

Tate and Hepworth good value if you are over 60! Beaches lovely Crab sandwich at Porthmeor beach take-away seemed expensive but with generous layers of dark meat, white meat and lettuce on fresh bread was totally worth it!

Loved this place. Madie and Duncan are exceptional hosts. Room was beautiful and the whole house was warm and inviting. Their attention to detail is what made it special. Breakfast was great and plentiful, as was the fantastic meal the evening we stayed (St Ives was super busy and you couldn’t get a restaurant booking, so Madie offered to make us a meal. Her fish pie is amazing and I still dream about that pavlova! ) We loved it so much we have already booked a stay for next year!

Tips:

Close to the beach and really convenient for the town and restaurants etc. Parking on the drive makes it perfect

Painters Cottage is a delight. The room (we were in Sea View) was excellent with a wonderful en suite. The breakfasts were fantastic and big! The whole place was clean and fresh. It was located close to the town centre, a good beach and the train station. And it had parking! But, then, many B&Bs can claim all of that. What sets Painters Cottage apart are the hosts, Duncan and Maddie; so friendly, so helpful, so knowledgeable about where to go and what to see and so friendly. We were chatting with them and two other guests as we prepared to go for dinner and they announced it was ‘aperitif time’ - wine all round and a good chat. But then, a good chat is guaranteed; everything from art or history to politics or food. They are a great double act. It was a great stay!

This was a lovely B&B to stay at in St. Ives. The room was beautiful and the hospitality of Madie and Duncan can't be beat! My husband and I stayed here while walking a portion of the South West Coast Path and it was a perfect place to relax. The breakfast was delicious and the packed lunches saved us the next day during our long walk. I hope to stay again soon!

Tips:

If you are a coastal walker, definitely go for the packed lunch! The hike from St. Ives to Pendeen is remote and you will be happy for a tasty lunch along the way.

This was my second visit and my husband's first. I came back, because Painters' Cottage is a house on a hill that reminds me of the places people went on holiday to in story books. Each room is a pretty celebration of an individual artist and each breakfast is a celebration of Madie's great cooking prowess. Madie and Duncan make you completely at home, with their advice and practical support. Not ordinary. Extraordinary.

I have stayed at many Bed and Breakfasts over the years, and seldom met hosts as friendly, helpful, generous and even entertaining as Madie and Duncan. They make you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door, and you may even regret having to leave. Breakfasts are copious AND good. The accommodations are fine; as a bonus, my room had a bathtub and a view of the ocean.

Tips:

St Ives is a town rich in history and culture. In addition to the unexpected surprise of a Tate gallery, I recommend a small, volunteer-run museum near the harbor. It documents the town’s history in personal and historic context with photographs, artifacts and stories of the impact of the many shipwrecks on the town and its population. A word to the unsuspecting: if you buy any food at the beach, or for that matter anywhere you see a congregation of Seagulls, guard it carefully. I had just bought an ice cream cone when I heard the flap of wings over my shoulder and before I knew what it was (and before I got so much as a lick), this thief had made off with the ice cream. It was the perfect crime. He got the entire ball; I was left with an empty cone and probably a stunned expression on my face. There are signs warning people about these guys – pay attention to them

We had a lovely stay at the Painters Cottage. Super clean room with lovely quality furnishings and decor with a view of the sea and everything you need; even matching coat hangers which is a thing for me! Quality soap and lotion in the stunning bathroom too and plenty of hot water. Wonderful tasty food served cheerfully by Duncan and Madie who are super hosts. They are very genuine people and very helpful. They were also very gracious when I broke a soap dish. Town is a short hop away so this B&B is very convenient as well as being lovely. We would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone to stay here.

Tips:

We ate a lovely reasonably priced fish supper in the Balancing Eel, recommended by our hosts. We visited the Tate which is fab for modern art and has a great terrace overlooking the sea. The Barbara Hepworth museum is wonderful and definitely worth a visit.

Our hosts were welcoming. The bedroom/en-suite clean and included toiletries and espresso making machine and tea/coffee. Comfy bed.

Tips:

Parking is available and it is conveniently enough located to allow walking into town, but be aware that is on a hill.

28th October 2018:

Very helpful, friendly and accommodating Comfortable bed, lovely breakfast Location- up the hill above railway station, on a fairly busy road with no footpath.

Tips:

The walk to Carbis Bay has stunning views. Porthminster Cafe - fabulous location, welcoming staff; I only had coffee, but meals looked good.

15th October 2018:

Very friendly and welcoming. Great knowledge of local area. Particularly appreciated conversations with you about St Ives artists and crafts. Beautiful and interesting house. Had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Also outstandingly delicious breakfasts! You will certainly be my first choice for accommodation in St Ives for future visits.

Tips:

If you are interested in art Tate St Ives and Barbara Hepworth studio and garden are highlights and within walking distance of each other. If you are walking back to the guest house I'd recommend the friendly bus service that passes nearby. You can pick this up near the Tate too.

3rd September 2018:

Painters Cottage is a pretty and unique place. The welcome on arrival was warm, informal nd concerned for our comfort and well-being. The room was modern, yet entirely in keeping with the age of the arts-and -crafts age of the property. Slept like LOG. And THE BREAKFAST WAS SENSATIONAL. Am going back with my husband next time! Thank you very much.

3rd September 2018:

The room is big. Very clean and nice decoration. Nespresso machine is great and a lot of choice of teas. Breakfast is amazingly delicious and volume. Maddy is a perfect host. Hope to return sooner.

Tips:

Maddy well knows nice local restaurants. We enjoyed local fish very much. A steep slope from the coast but not so bad from the high street and valuable to see its landscapes.

Great place to stay lovely owners. Only point to improve: please put a sign on both sides so people driving down the street can see where you are. I had to drive both up and down to be able to see your sign

21st August 2018:

The house is charming and beautifully decorated in an Arts and Crafts style with many original features. Madie and Duncan are very welcoming and happy to provide tips and information on where to go, what to see and the best places to eat.

Tips:

Its only a short walk to Wharf Road where all the cafes and restaurants are located, but it is a steep climb back!
